Otherwise the obvious textbook is Braunwald’s but it’s also huge and dense and not a quick light read. Mayo has great review videos. Know all the guideline documents as above poster said. I disagree. If you want to match to the cardiology fellowship of your choice, go to the best IM residency program you can get into. Very unlikely that Miami cardiology would take its best IM resident over the best IM resident coming out of Hopkins, Duke, or MGH.Unlike residency, fellowship is 12 months to obtain a very specific skill set. A few more personally but everyone I’ve talked to outside the top top applicants seems to have fewer interviews this year. Whether that’s due to over applying and top people pulling in greater numbers or due to dilution of the pool (so many people over applied that it makes more people vying for every spot it’s now random chance) or if there’s more waves to come, really no way to know.Joining you here.. Pay in big cities is closer to 60-80k, but yeah you get paid more as a cardiology fellow just because you're another year out of med school.It is pragmatic and logical. IM is flexible, if you change your mind on fellowship you have PCP and hospitalist work to fallback on, both of which are far less brutal than EM work. I started residency desiring pulm/ccm but realized how burnt out I would be and chose hospitalist work and I could not be happier. #5.
